Hey guys,

so i opened up my gf's rev.B iMac G5 today to install a 512mb stick of RAM.

First i must say how impressed i was when i removed the back cover to her iMac. Seriously, even more beautiful on the inside. It's just amazing how apple got everything to fit inside a 2inch thick rectangular box.

Ok, so about this buzzing sound. I know now for a fact that it's coming from the bottom left side of the iMac. I'm almost positive it's the power supply. The buzzing sound is not a fan, cause' there aren't any fans in the bottom left area of the iMac. The only two fans i saw were up top near the center. So yea, the buzzing sound should be coming from the left side of the power supply which sits in between the two speakers on the bottom of the iMac.
So to recap, the sound is coming from the bottom left hand side, but to the right of the left speaker.

Is there anyway i can turn on the iMac without the back cover on? I know where the power button is, and i don't need to plug in keyboard or mouse, just gotta turn it on. This way, without the back cover on, i can really listen for where this buzzing sound is coming from.

But yea, i'm almost 100% sure it's not a fan, cause' i can't see any fans on the bottom left hand side of the iMac.

You know what though, after opening it up, i could care less about the buzzing, i'm just amazed at how beautifully the iMac was designed inside and out.

Yeah, you can turn it on with the back off, but you're running the chance of shorting the machine, or electrocuting yourself. Just be careful, and don't touch any resistors or capacitors while it's running or plugged in.
