Hippy, Apple has given up on IBM and vice versa. Apple has declared the PowerPC to be a dead-end. They're certainly not going to pour resources into developing radically new designs for a dead-end, especially when all the informed consumers are going to turn their noses up at anything labeled PPC.

So Apple won't sell any new hardware for a year? I bet they have something in the works such as a 970MP model...

There certainly won't be a Quad Processor Powermac coming. But, I do see the Dual Core chips making it into one more PPC based revision.

It seems to me that the two year lag in the top of the line machine can only be due to contracts in place for hardware: chips, cards, video, ram.

there for they have to use this stuff up, probably at close to cost. Note; the top of the line has more stuff, and will take longer to sell ie two years.

if theyve had an intel box for a long time, they could have anoundced once to well " in two months" as they usually do on their top of the line models.

then as this had to be kept a sececret, they would have had to absorb the cost of their ongoing contractrs.

thats the way I see it.

now whats IN those contracts Apple isn't going to say. so there may be something interesting or there may not be. if apple contracted for DP IBM, then thtats what we will get.

BTY: where are the IBM DP chips going to go if not apple, do they have other uses for IBM? do they go in game boxes?
