So some of the thermal sensors on CPU A of my Dual 2Ghz G5 are out and it's locking up like crazy. Anyone had to get this fixed? Do they replace the whole CPU, and how much did it cost? Considering I am a poor college student, I have a $3000 paperweight just sitting around.

Just for the search Gods' sake, here's the error Apple Hardware Test gives me:

You mean the OS is freezing/unresponsive? Or the whole machine? It might be a built in safetyguard, since the OS can no longer read the CPU temp, just for safety it locks the machine, so as to not have it overheating. It would make more sense the fans going full speed, but...
Maybe you can find out more at an Apple Store. Good luck. I've been having lots of KP's lately, and am hesitant to bring it in, because it is my main machine and can't really do without at the moment. But they told me to bring it in a the beginning of the week, so it could be I get it back that same week. Maybe something to consider if you're planning of taking the machine in for repair.
Good luck.

I had the same friggin problem just last week! Crazy to find that we had the same issue in the same month on the same model Apple. I called Apple Care to see if they could help. Unfortunately I'm just 20 days after my warranty. Now I can't get any help from them. I told the tech lady that I purchased my comp from ebay in November 2004. She said I could fax them my proof of purchase date, they would allow to buy Apple Care. But you know how that ended up, some other customer relations guy told me that was false info. Now I thought I was fugged. Anyhow, I just reinstalled Panther and things are fine.

SO TRY REINSTALLING PANTHER. one last note...apple's warranty policy can suck my bootie. I've paid so much for their hardware in the past years and they still treated my like a smuck.
