Apple's transition to Intel CPU - good strategy!
IBM is only a scapegoat, giving Apple an excellent excuse. But on the other hand, Apple is too small a customer for IBM and Freescale (2% of its rev). Apple has very limited power to influence their strategies.
It's my opinion. I think Apple's strategy has three steps
Step 1: 2005-2007 two years
Successfully transite to Intel CPU
- Application is key, if not enough support from developers, Apple will fail
- Native support for windows applications (does Apple still need VPC?)
Step 2: 2007-2010 three years
penetrate to Windows market
- License to big PC makers (Dell, HP etc.)
- Allow pirating (MS 20 years ago did the same)
Step 3: 2010-
Direct competition with MS.
I think Apple knows they have a secure and user-friendly OS. We and Apple both know Mac OS is much better than Windows. The key weakness for Mac OS is windows compatibility. Now with native windows support, do you think people will still choose windows?
Steve Jobs has a huge ambition this time!
Opinions are welcome!
