I got a Power MAcintosh G3 bue adn white tower recently, which had suffered neglect in my father's co-workers basement. got it runing, and it worked ok. I more recently got a copy of OSX Panther, with Install CD 1, Install CD 2, adn Apple Hardwarecheck + Extras install. I find when i try adn boot from CD 1 my mac dosen't recognize it, and when i boot to my OS (Mac OS 8.6) it won't read the CD and asks to initalize it. the same happns with CD2, but not the AHC CD. I checked my Firmware and it was up to date. If someone help me figure out wahts whats wrogn ti would be greatly appreciated.

Those OS X disc's you got are probably dvd's. The Apple Hardware test disc is a cd so of course it will work.

Most B&W G3's only have a cd-rom drives. Hop onto ebay and get yourself a standard ide dvd drive and then you'll be able to install panther.

If the hardware test disk came with the panther disks you bought, it is an OEM copy, that is machine specific and will not install on a machine other than the model it was designed for.

if the person/place you bought it from claims it was a RETAIL verson, they lied........ the retail version of Panther did NOT and does NOT come with a hdwr test disk. (I bought one for my B&W, and 4 others at various times for installs on my friends' 'puters)

If it was a DVD version, it would all be on 1 disk......

Some B&W's were offered w/ a dvd drive, if it was ordered w/ the Rage 128 that had the add-on dvd hardware decoder .....
Signatures are ugly. Bitchy women are ugly......YOU do the math :)

You're right, he has got disks from another computer. e.g Ibook

They won't work on the G3. They are dvd's though - two of them.

The Apple Hardware test does only come with computers and is a cd. It probably won't work, but give it a try.
