I have a powerbook g4 667 DVI with an ext 20" ACD.

I want to produce movies and burn them to DVDs, and my TiBook is starting to slow down a little bit. For iMovie, dvd-burning, and running like 10 apps at once, what is my best option?

- wait for a new powerbook to come out, buy the cheapest one with a superdrive. ($2200?)
- buy the low-end g5 with 160gb ($2000)
- high-end mini ($700?)

monitor, keyboard, mouse are all taken care of.

IMHO, In descending order:

used dual 1.8GHz or 2.0GHz G5 tower
used dual 1.25GHz or dual 1.42GHz G4 tower
new iMac

I think any single processor G4 on a notebook hard drive will frustrate you unless you ABSOLUTELY need the portability.

Editing will tax your CPU, bus and hard drive.

Compressing to MPEG-2 is almost all CPU.
MacBook Pro C2D 2.16GHz 2GB 120GB OSX 10.4.9, Boot Camp 1.2, Vista Home Premium
mac mini 1.42, 60GB 7200rpm, 1GB (sold), dual 2GHz/G5 (sold), Powerbook 15" 1GHz (sold)
dual G4 800MHz (sold), dual G4 450MHz (sold), G4 450MHz (sold), Powerbook Pismo G3 500MHz (sold)
PowerMac 9500 132MHz 601, dual 180MHz 604e, Newer G3 400MHz (in closet)
Powermac 7100 80MHz (sold), Powermac 7100 66MHz (sold)

What's you budget and portability needs?

In decreasing order of video editing performance:
1. G5 if you can afford it
2. PB if you can afford it and need portability
3. Mini if you can't afford any of the above

Does anyone use a setup like this video editing?

hi-end mini with superdrive plus a fast external firewire drive (250?) for editing to replace the 4200rpm internal drive?

This is probably $1000...seems like a pretty good alternative to the G5...or am I trying to stretch the mini's capabilities?

$ 250 ?

All depends on how much GB you need.
Newegg has good deals, e.g. a 160G - 7200 RPM Western Digital drive for $ 133 after MIR.
Even comes with a USB2 hub and Retrospect.
