hi,
after months of finding out about macs, i have finally decided between 2
imac 1.8ghz or mac mini1.42ghz
would it be worth waiting for intel macs?
i would be using a mac for games (not too graphics intensive), web surfing and email and storing photos.
how long would an imac or mac mini last me for these tasks?

I think that the 1.8ghz iMac is the best choice. The iMac comes with -
-Faster CPU (1.8ghz G5 vs 1.42ghz G4)
-Faster FSB (600mhz vs 167mhz)
-More standard RAM, and it can take more RAM (2Gb v 1GB)
-better hard disk (160GB 7200rpm vs 80GB 4200rpm)
-far better video card (Radeon 9600 with 128MB of VRAM vs Radeon 9200 with 32MB of RAM); Plus, the iMac's video card is Core Image compatable.
-comes with a keyboard, and mouse
-has built in Bluetooth and Airport
A BTO 1.42ghz Mini with BT/AE/KB/Mouse and 512MB of RAM comes to $806.00, which is about $500.00 less than the 1.8ghz iMac.

and 500 bux could get you a 20" LCD display from Dell...but i agree with Agent, unless you want/desire the option to have your own display to mix n match around, i suggest you get an iMac as well.

yeah, go with the iMac, if you want to play games, the imac's video card is like triple better than the mac minis.

This is all a question of finances and computing needs. If you don't have a monitor and mouse / keyboard that would work with the Mac mini, you should seriously consider the iMac.

Unless you are on a serious budget....get the iMac. A whole lot more computer for you money, very fast processor, huge hard drive, 4 times the video memory, airport, bluetooth, etc.
The iMac will last many years.

Yeah, if you already have a monitor, keyboard, and mouse, it might be better to go with the Mini. If you don't, you will have to decide for yourself. Another option, especially if you current don't have hardware, is the entry level eMac (which was just rrefreshed). It is probably a better deal, although it is not as sexy. It comes with:
-1.42ghz G4 on a 167mhz FSB
-256MB RAM (up to 1GB)
-Radeon 9600 w 64MB of VRAM (Core Image compatable)
-80Gb HDD
-2 Firewire 400 ports/3 USB 2 ports
-Keyboard/Mouse/Modem cable
-Integrated 17" Monitor and stereo speakers
All for $799.00. I think it compares well with the Mini.

ok, forget the mac mini, what about an ibook g4?
i would actually prefer an ibook to a mac mini
i already have an old monitor (that takes up quite a bit of space on my desk) and a spare usb keyboard and mouse, so i was thinking i could join my mouse to the ibook when its on my desk, cause i dont like using the trackpad all the time.
one last question, would it be worth waiting for intel macs????????
