Sorry, the server wouldn't take my first post.
I have a Dual 1Ghz MDD G4 with the ATI 9000 Pro. I would like to upgrade it to take advantage of the new Tiger features, Core Image and Quartz Exteme. I guess I need a 9600 or better. What is the recommended card for this Mac and do I need to upgrade my power supply?
Thanks,
Mike

The only graphics card that will work with zero hackery is the retail ATI Radeon 9800 Pro. An excellent buy, in my opinion. It can be had from between $225 and $250 from a slew of sites. They're around $180~ on eBay now.
The Radeon 9600 requires modification of the pins to work, and the ADC port will not power a display unless you make a hardware modification to the card.
Given the price of the 9800 Pro both used and new, and the work involved getting a 9600 to work, I'd say just get a 9800 Pro.
Your power supply is more than sufficient.

Thanks very much for the info. I've seen a few posts about different versions of the 9800 Pro card. Do I need to be careful which one I get? The OEM or ATI versions, something like that? I'm in Canada if that makes things worse. :-)

The two retail versions are the 9800 Pro and 9800 Pro SE. The SE has twice the RAM but is for the G5-only.
Just make sure whatever you get is specifically for the Mac and supports AGP 4x.

One place to shop for video cards is Other World Computing they even have modified 9600 cards that come with a one year warranty. I recently bought one of their firewire HDs and have been very happy with it... Hope that helps.

If you have a DVI monitor, get a 9600 or 9600XT. They're fairly cheap ($50 or $130 respectively), and they're really easy to install. The only thing you do is add two tiny pieces of scotch tape to the pins...that's it. It's a very fast card, and if you aren't a gamer, a 9800 is kinda overkill.
