So I've decided I'm not replacing my desktop until the intel macs show up so we gotta make my current one last at least 3 more years. In this timeframe I will however prolly upgrade the portables.
The desktop is a 500MHz G3 iMac it curently has a 7200RPM 80gig Seagate HD and 320 megs RAM it is also running 10.2. So here is what I'm looking to do, I would like toupgrade the RAM to 768 by removing the 64meg chip and swapping it w/ a 512 chip. Then upgrading to 10.4 or 10.3, what do u guys think is better considering the age of the machine? I'm hoping this rock-solid machine I have will be able to continue to serve me very well as I really do love this thing! Also how will 10.3/4 work with it, as I'm hoping for a speed jump which I'm sure the RAM will help with!

Thanks!

Impressive technical prowess to upgrade your iMac that far, but why not get a mini for the time being?

I should really rephrase that, obviously the macmini would be faster, but I doubt that it would really be noticible, I've used iMacs of comperable speed and was not impressed at all, in fact I was quite disaappointed, and those I know would be faster then the current minis. I actually notice a huge gap between the 800MHz G3 iBook I have and the iMac and I find that to be faster than the first or decond set of iMacs. This all being said in photoshop and other cpu demanding apps the G4 will smoke the g3 and the grafix card will give it a leg up too, but for websurfing with itunes and ichat going it isn't gonna help!
