OK. A friend gave me an LC520 (25MHz 68030, 160MB HDD, 2x CD, 12MB RAM, built in, etc.).

I am trying to collect parts to boost this thing to the best it can be. I got all the data copied off the 160MB HD, but I want to install a bigger drive. It uses SCSI for the internal HDD and the CD and has external SCSI.
What is the biggest HDD I can put on it?
In the old DOS days on PCs, there were limits at 520MB, 850MB, and 2GB due to BIOS limitations. Since the Mac doesn't have a BIOS, is there a limit?
I'm gonna try a 2GB SCSI drive I got from work (IBM 1994) and see what that will do. If it doesn't work and i can obtain smaller than 2GB but larger than 160MB drives, how big can I go? Does SCSI have this limitation?
(Sorry if this isn't really a PowerMac question. There really isn't a forum for really old machines here and I don't think the forums for classic Macs get as much traffic. If I don't get an answer, I will keep looking.)
Thanks for your help.
Dan

I have a Peforma 476 which is very similar, and I've been using an 4GB drive with system 7.6.1. below is a link which might be a good starting point for your search.

If you are running a 4GB drive, then I can probably run one. I have found the info page at lowendmac for the LC520, but it only states what the machine came with, not anything (or very little) about what it is capable of.
4GB may or may not be the max, but it is bigger than I'll ever need. Thanks for the quick reply!

I have an ethernet card for this machine if you are interested? PM me if you are. There were some access limitations but I don't recall the size if it was 4GB or 8GB. You should be fine with the 4GB and have PLENTY of room for anything that computer can run.
Memory was 72pin DIMMs. OS7.61 would work ok in 12MB of RAM. If you could up the RAM to more than 32MB then OS8 should run.

I'm sending you a PM about the ethernet card. It would be a PDS card.
It's a 68030 so it won't run OS8. I have 7.6.1 and I plan on installing it once I get a bigger HD. Thanks to "Macintosh garden" I can get games that will run on it.

It is possible to install OS 8.0 or 8.1 on this machine with a little 3rd-party help.
