Should I be concerned about the fact that my newly installed 200GB SATA Maxtor drive (in bay B) is registering SMART Status: Not Supported?

1. I noticed the drive was not mounted after I installed Tiger today, so I took my G5 offline again to check the cables. The power cable was lose. Do you think I damaged the drive? I thought SATA drives would register SMART data.

2. I do believe the drive was registering as Verified under Panther.

3. The only references I can find to this "Not Supported" message are messages regarding Firewire drives, not SATAs.

4. Hardware Monitor does display a temperature for it that is fluctuating. Perhaps the OS is just being a bit clueless?

"Not Supported" is a lot better than "Failing"

Take it out and put it back in... if it seems to be working ok then id leave it.
I free'd my mind... now it won't come back.

Thank you for responding and providing that advice, RevEvs. I'll probably leave it alone, yet I'm troubled by the apparent memory of it showing Verified before. Anyone else have input?

Okay, now it has switched to Verified. Has anyone seen activity like this? Should I possibly return the drive?
