HELP my external harddrive won't mount!!!

This is the second time I experience problems with mounting through my firewire-ports. First time it was an iPod (hate them)...and I had to send both my Emac and iPod to repairing. But now it´s my external harddrive that won't mount (Hitachi w/ IDE port) and I really haven't got time to wait another 2 months as I've got a deadline in 14 days.

Does anyone know what might be the problem and what I can do about it? Same thing goes for my scanner by the way (USB).

By the way I tested the harddrive on another Mac and there was (almost) no problems on that one!
