I'm thinking of replacing my 1.25 ghz g4 MDD with a 20" 2ghz G5 iMac, but I'm worried that it won't really be that much faster. Right now I have 1.75 gigs of RAM but I've been reading about this whole paired ram thing and am thinking of just using 2x512mb sticks in the iMac. Obviously I'd rather go for 2x1gb sticks, but that seems prohibitively expensive.

Has anyone here made a comparable upgrade? What are your impressions?
