I have been told that mac does not need any antivirus programme to protect against virus, as they do not get infected by them, is that true!?! or he lied LOL. it might be a stupid question, but there aren't much antivirus programme for mac around. i only saw some old version of norton antivirus for mac.

No known viruses for the OSX platform.

Never use any Norton product on any OSX platform, they don't go well and can cause major problems.

A quick search would have come up with your answer. If, for example, you get an email with a virus, it won't be able to impact OSX but you can pass it along to a friend or co-worker or client who uses Windows and pass the virus along, which is always bad form.
