I'm looking at it right now, and I can't figure out how the thing is even installed. Do I have to take the other side panel off? If so, that sucks, as I don't have any allen wrenches here. :|

Does it come out the back and slide in? What's the deal? Anyone have a PDF of a quicksilver service manual?

Look for several screws around the edges of the 'fan box' -- not the ones on the 'front side' of the box since those hold the fan in and unscrewing that while the box is still secured to the case just causes the darn thing to dangle around. Looking inside my machine as I type this, I see 1 on the bottom, the power supply cables screw on the left, probably another screw on the left not sure, and one on the top that holds the power supply and such to the rail. There's probably others but I'm not sure right now (can't remember anyway)...

Shouldn't be too hard Good luck.

Darn. Found them before your message. Anyway, the reason I couldn't see that bottom one was my 3rd HD was in the way, and I thought it looked like it didn't have a screw down there. Well, out with the old fan, and in with one of these:

It's a lot quieter now, and now I have a weird blue glow on the back bottom 1/4 of my side panel.

Well, it spins under 1k rpms, and it claims almost 40 cfm... not sure what the factory one was, but this seems to be working fine so far. It's a lot quieter. Now it seems like my 3 hds are responsible for most of the noise. I suppose I could replace the PS fan too, since I have an extra fairly silent 80mm fan...but... meh.

Oh yeah, I also cut off hte finger guard from the factory fan bracket to quiet it down a bit more.

Also, take a look at the CPU fan. I think it's a 60mm, and it's pretty noisy.

The 120MM fan can be anything from a sunon to a delta, unfortunately I got a delta sensflow lol...

The 60mm for me is a minebea.. I need to swap that sucker AND the big fan, but you want to be careful to get a powerful enough fan if you have a dual processor machine, the heatsink gets hot enough with a stock one.

Well, I have a dual 1.33 ghz G4 gigadesigns upgrade, and it has it's own 80mm fan, which I replaced with this one:

http://www.xoxide.com/80aliqublled1.html

This was the main culprit, as my old 80mm gigadesigns fan was dying and extremely noisey. However, this new 120mm fan also helped out quite a bit. As for the 60mm intake fan... I don't even know if I need it anymore. I might try unplugging it. See, it's currently blowing right ont he side of my gigadesigns upgrade, but the 80mm fan is effectively blocking it. I wish the G4s had a temperature sensor so I could monitor the temp to see if it was affecting anything. Maybe I'll score a temp monitor somewhere to find out.
