I want a Mac Mini but I want a little more speed and at least an 80GB hard drive. Any guesses as to when Apple might do a revision. I do not want the built in screen of the iMac.

this is a nice guide to help you buy a new mac. As you can see, we don't have any info for the mac mini. It is the first and we dont know how often it updates.

There's not really much they can do with the mini.
The only other G4 chips are 1.5 and 1.67 and they are being used in the powerbooks.
The lastest G4 from Freescale features a 200MHz bus which would be welcome.
I put a 7200rpm hard drive in my Mini and the drive gets as hot as 113F, so, cooling issues seem to be a bit of worry. The fan is very small, and not a lot of air moves through the case.
A 1.5MHz G4 offers little over the current 1.42. A faster hard drive and a 64MB video card will only add to the heat.
Just not sure what they will do to the mini before it gets an Intel chip. I would not be all that surprised if the Mini stays about like it is and becomes one of the first machines that gets the intel chips in time for xmas of this year or something.

apple can up the mini just as fast as the powerbooks if they wanted to...113F isn't a big deal when my PB runs at 130F+ when i drive my 20" LCD. they could very well add a better GPU, 5400RPM drive, more HD space, faster FSB, a tad more MHz, more initial RAM, and maybe (and i might be pushing it here) 512MB soldered on with one empty slot to move it up to 1.5. mind you im not saying they'll do all of the above, but they could easily up any of the things i mentioned and most likely the results will be better than the mini's out now. i just want 64mb of VRAM before i buy mine.

I know many people who are waiting for a new mac mini. The most common reason is that it's a good hold-over machine to wait out the transition. I know I want one because it's not too expensive and I can save the big bucks to purchase a tower when we have intel chips.
The main hold up for me is the VRAM and the RAM. I would love to see more soldered on or perhaps 1 more slot. I know it's cramped in there, but I am sure they could find some space. VRAM is the big one for me, I will be purchasing it with a 23 inch display and I want good performance with it. I would have bought the display earlier, but it would turn my 12 inch PB into a very hot potato.
SO APPLE - READ - I know many people who are waiting for a small upgrade (VRAM) to make this purchase. Then we'll be happy waiting to spend the big bucks when Intel towers are available.

I have a weird feeling that it might be the first Intel Mac. I dunno why, but I do.
Either way, the ruth always is that any computer you buy now is on the verge of being upgraded. If you need/want the thing, get it, but know that either two weeks or two months from now, the new version will appear. Just how it is.
