Hello,

my friend is interested in buying the 1.8ghz G5 iMac, and Garageband is the main selling point. Now on the Apple website it lists the required specs, and the iMac meets them all but from personal experience even if the machine meets the system requirements the program sometimes does not preform at a useable level.

Does anyone have experience using Garageband on a 1.8 (or slower) iMac? does it preform well?

Any comments would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks in advance,

Chris.

Works great on my 1.8. I wouldn't even think twice about it, the iMac flies!

GarageBand mainly relies on a fast hard disk and plenty, fast memory. The iMac does very in both regards, so you should be fine.

On a side note, I downloaded the Logic Express trial and found that it performed MUCH better on my iBook G4 and DP PowerMac. If your friend finds GarageBand too slow (which would take very many tracks), recommend him to try Logic Express. It requires a learning curve but has more functionality and speed when you learn how to use it.

It stuttered on my 1.25ghz iMac G4 which I thought was weird as I could get it working on my 867mhz PB G4. But I logged out and back in and it ran fine - maybe that cleared all my memory down properly or something?
