Hello all -

Apologies if this is the wrong forum.

I've recently purchased a new Radeon 9800 Mac special edition (256mB G5 edition). On install and reboot the will operate, but I have a huge amount of screen artifacts, rendering the machine essentially unusable.

I've tried re-booting and re-seating the card with no success: dead card or idiot user?

Any suggestion or advice would be appreciated!

Sounds like a bad card.

If you run Apple Hardware Test it may show a problem but I doubt it. AHT often misses problems, so either way, it sounds like you need to exchange the card.

Another possiblity is a bad cable (it would have to be really bad to show the effects you describe), but I assume you were using the same cable and monitor with your previous card.

Could be a drivers issue? Since it is a retail card I guess you need the ATI drivers, not just the Mac OS X ones.

Thank you both for your help. It turned out to be a bad card.

The supplier was great and replaced it the very next day with no hassle and it's running perfectly right now.

Thanks again.
