i want to get a new hard drive for christmas and ive found a really cheap 80gb one, 7200rpm. i need to know if this will not get to hot and if it will work fast in my imac (see signature)

If it's IDE it should.

No. It should be just fine. I've replaced many a hard drive in the CRT iMacs.

I put a Western Digital Special Edition 7200 rpm 120 GB in my iMac DV. The machine feels hotter and there hasn't been a problem until this summer when it's been overheating and shutting down.
