Hi!

Not sure if it's the right forum to ask this question... My mother have a Beige G3 desktop with a 4 GB hard drive. Unfortunately, the disk went dead a week ago. Disk First Aid is even unable to mount the drive to perform repairs. My question is: Can I replace it with any ATA drive, knowing the 127 GB limit since the machine runs OS 9? Or do I have to find something older like ATA-66?

Many thanks in advance,
Jean-Luc

There are plenty of sub-127 GB drives on sale (80 and 120 gig being the most common), larger drives often come with a jumper which blocks the `excess' space. Basically, you would waste the space … But yes, you can replace it with any plain-vanilla (parallel) ATA drive (as opposed to serial ATA).
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.
