hey everybody,

I've been experiencing some issues while trying to install OS X on my B&W G3 iMac. I tried installing Panther and then Tiger, both on their respective DVDs with no success. Panther could not install it's bundled packages and Tiger began installing, but ended up stalling.

This led me to erase my HD, and reformatting it. Then I re-installed OS 9, and tried to install OS X with the same results.

I had also reset my PRAM as one of the posts here recommened when installing the new OS. This was done after installing OS 9.

Now a major problem has occured since I have gone through these processes. My RAM now only reads 128MB, when it had been 256, as the minimum requirement suggested for the installation of OS X. It was fine before I had erased my computer entirely, but now it only recognizes 128 MB of what was 256! I don't think that had anything to do with it but...

So, I'm at a loss as to why the RAM is reading the way it is, and to why the new OS wasn't able to install. Has anybody experienced similar problems installing the new OS on an old computer? And does anyone know why I'm having this RAM problem?

thanks!

I had a similar problem a few years back with my old iMac DV. I had added a 256MB PC100 module for it which OS9 never had any trouble with, but for some reason OSX did - I had problems re-installing OS X and certain memory hungry apps under OSX would cause kernel panics - I never really got to the bottom of it.
I got a really cheap 512MB module, sold the troublesome 256MB to a friend for his PC (he has had no trouble with it!) and had no further problems.
