Hi, I've got a 1999 iMac DV G3 400MHz running Jaguar. It's been perfect until now - but all of a sudden it won't boot up after a week or so of suddenly switching itself off with no warning. When you press the 'on' button, there's a crackle of static, a pause and then that 'sigh' sound you get after switching off.
I assume from the fact that it is not completely dead and does this every time that it can't be the power supply. The screen never lights up, there is no chime and no lights appear on the keyboard or behind the on/off switch on the computer itself....- is the hard drive dead, perhaps? and is this an easy job to fix for a handy DIYer who has little technical knowledge?
