Hiya,

So I've ordered my DP2.7, with the HD upgraded to 400GB. I've also ordered a Maxtor DiamondMax 10 300GB hard drive.

My question is - Should I swap the Hard drive that comes with the PowerMac into the second bay, and use the Maxtor drive as the primary boot drive because it's faster?

What do you think - is it better to have a faster boot drive or a faster storage/scratch drive?

This is all rather new to me, so I'm curious and hope you can help!

Cheers,

WJ.

No need to change bays, just put the new drive in the open bay. Each bay has its own SATA controller and there's no speed difference between the two and no advantage to swapping bays--you'd just be making more work for yourself.

If you use Photoshop or something that likes its own scratch drive then you want both your boot and scratch partitions to be fast. Storage speed doesn't matter much. If you don't need dedicated scratch space then you only need to worry about the speed of your boot drive.

Ahh, thanks for clearing that up - save me some unnecessary work

Guess I'll use the 300GB as the boot, then!

WELL...

it depends on the work you do. If you're importing video to the storage drive, the faster one should be used. However, if it's just for music and videos and whatnot, then a slower, larger drive would suffice.
