I've spend the better half of 2 days trying to hunt a PCI or PCI-X SATA RAID Controller for my new PM G5. Does anyone have one or know of where to get one?
They abound for the PC world, and I find it funny that it's so hard to find one for the Mac (if they are even made!!) I know that Apple give us software RAID support, but I would rather my CPU's worry about rendering and not the RAID.
I have a nice SATA, 4 bay eternal case that I would hate to have waste.
Your help is appreciated!!!

Highpoint sells the 1820A card, though you would have to run internal cables out through another PCI slot.

if my memory serves me right, you can get a SATA Hardware RAID card in the Xserve as a BTO... maybe you can purchase it from Apple for your PMG5?

Sonnet Technologies offers two PCI-X eSATA 8-channel controllers, one with 4 internal+4 external ports (Tempo-X eSATA 4+4), and one with 8 external ports (Tempo-X eSATA 8). Although neither offers onboard (hardware) RAID, they both perform really well (up to 545MB/s with an 8-drive RAID) with the right drives using RAID 0 or RAID 10 (only with Tiger) without impacting CPU performance in a big way.

Go to MacGurus.com they sell a bunch of different versions of host raid controllers for macs. I personally bought the NetCell raid controller... it does hardware 0,1 and XL. XL being raid 3... many say that raid 3 is best for video due to the way the raid algorithm works out for the majority of I/O called for in NLE enviornments.

Thanks for all of your help. The PCI-X card from Highpoint looks really nice. Supports RAID 10 too! I'll be purchasing one on Monday.
