hi all. so i eagerly updated my imac g4 1ghz w/ 1.25gb ram to tiger from jaguar (actually did a full install, not an upgrade). i was eager for all the new toys, but was also expecting at least a decent increase in performance. much to my surprise, my imac seems more sluggish- login window has maybe 3-5 second pause, apps are a bit more slow.... and also, the fan will not turn off EVER. does this make sense? i am thinking i may need to reinstall or something. any thoughts?

Check your Energy Saver settings. Also check to see if any stray processes are hogging CPU time.

Dashboard's widgets may be the culprit of the increased fan activity. Try closing all of them and see if you notice a difference.

If you still can't solve the problem, get a PowerMac G5. I chose it over the iMac, and I'm sure glad I did. Incredible silence-to-power ratio this bad boy has.

I'd recommend backing up your system then doing a write-zeroes format to really freshen up the hard disk. I have a 1.25ghz iMac G4 and I did this and it flies with Tiger. Did the same with my PowerBook which was very sluggish when I upgraded it to Tiger, it's now also a lot faster.

 iMac Core 2 Duo 17" 2ghz 3gb/250gb ||  iBook G4 12" 1.33ghz 1gb/40gb
