Hi, I am having a problem with my G5 2004 model dual 1.8 GHz.
Every so often when i remove a USB device from the front port, the computer will go to sleep. I have not seen this with any other port, but I hardly ever remove devices from the rear ports.
Does anyone else have this problem?
I am reluctant to take it to a apple technician as the problem is not reproducible.
any help would be appreciated

that's weird!
Have you tried removing the back USB devices to see if the same happens?

I have never experienced this whe removing devices from the rear of the computer. It may happen there as well though I cant tell because it does not always happen.
It has so far only happened 3 times. Once when removing a hard drive, once when removing a bluetooth dongle, and once when removing a keyboard.
Has any one had any experience with taking random problems in for applecare. DO they charge you if they find no problem (highely likely as the three times have been over about 3 months) ?

I don't know about applecare, but I sure know that the behaviour is not normal...
The test with the rear USB was meant to see if the problem is only in the front one (which is USB 2.0).
If it is, *maybe* the problem is only in the port, but I can't guarantee.

Are you pushing at all anywhere on the front of the case when you unplug it? Could you be flexing the front case just enough to push the switch in on the front panel, that would make it say hey goto sleep. Maybee just try and hold the top of the system and pull on the plug gently and see what happens. Maybee when you pull on the plug, it's pulling the switch out into the front of the case and activating the switch that way as well and making it go to sleep.
