I can get 1GB RAM for the mini for a LOT less (through Crucial) than Apple wants to supply it from the factory. Is there any impact on the warranty if the customer changes RAM in a mini? I know it's a lot like a laptop in a lot of ways, but Apple laptops make it easy to upgrade your RAM, and the mini makes it hard, so I have to know. It's a matter of about $90 difference...

Bumpage. I'm less worried about this since Apple's announcement of the new Mac Minis with a base RAM of 512, but I still wonder about it...

i read in a mac magazine yesterday (i forgot which one, since i just acquired a collection of old mac magazines) that actually opening the mac mini does not void the warranty. I am guessing that if you ever needed to send the mac back for repairs, that you can swap the original chip back in.

but i am 100% sure that that was what i read.

I believe you're right. But if you break something while you're working inside the mini that's your own fault and not covered by warranty (that's sensible.)
