I have a 20" 2.0Ghz G5 iMac, with 512 MB of RAM. I want to upgrade to 2GB. Should I get dual channel or not?

If not, what brand should I get? Does it really matter?

I only use Crucial memory for my computers. It's more expensive, but well worth the fact that it's absolute top-quality, and guaranteed to work. The hassle of troubleshooting marginal RAM isn't worth the cost savings.

Go to Crucial's site and see what is available-they explain everything very well. I don't know whether the G5 supports dual channel RAM or not (it doesn't look like it), but it will handle 2GB of RAM, so if you think performance is important, spring for two 1GB sticks and install them.

Save your self some money, go to newegg.com and pick up a couple of 1 gig Corsair ValueSelect sticks. Only about $85 a chip and they work just fine in the Mac. I have 2 gigs of it in my Pm G5 and 1 gig of it in my iMac G5, no problems at all, works just fine, and it has lifetime warrantie.
