Hi, this is my first message here ...
I've been having this problem for quite a while now. I don't know that much about computers (in geneeral) so I don't know whether this is an easy or impossible problem to solve.
We've got an imac : mac OS 9.2.2 / internet explorer 5.O
Only a few months ago we upgraded to 9.2.2 and ever since we sometimes can't hear audio files.
For instance I wanted to listen to some real player files on the Bunnymen site : they seem to open, but I can't hear a thing.
Other problem that has been happening since : I get sound but no image when I open some windows media player files. I hear the clip, but don't get to see anything.
Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
We never had this problem before we upgraded our computer.
Can anyone help me solve these problems ?
Thanks

For the audio - do you get a single file which sometimes plays silent and sometimes plays OK - or is it certain files which are always silent? If it is the latter, it may be that you need to redownload and reinstall the media players again.
Windows media files can contain a mix of video and audio in several different formats and some of them cannot be decoded on a mac (yet) such as those with MPEG2 video - I believe there is no wma mac decoder for that so far (someone correct me if I'm wrong)

As for real player : some files open and some don't. It is Not that I can listen to ONE file at one time and can't at another time.
So, I'll try downloading it again.
And what Media player concerns : how can it be that the problem has only been occuring since we upgraded the system ? Seems contradictory

With the windows media player, are they files you were previously able to play and get video?
A lot of files are now being encoded with MPEG2 (as well as the other formats)

It plays OK in Windows Media player 10 but probably you are having problems as MS only realeased their player for OS9 up to version 7 and it does not include the latest decoders for more recent video encoding methods. Sorry I don't have any suggestions as workarounds - OS X is great but I would not recommend it if this is the only problem you have and you are happy with OS9.
