Looking at a new Powermac. Am I better off buying a Dual 2.3 w/ 1gb of RAM or saving the $500 and buying a Dual 2.0 and filling it w/ 2+ gb of RAM?

This will be my last PPC machine - so it's gotta last till the Intel Macs are out, and stable. Do I combat obsolescence w/ RAM or Proc Speed?

Get the 2.3, then fill it up with 3rd party RAM later, as time and money afford. Don't buy extra RAM from Apple, like, ever.

Get the Dual 2.3 and fill it up over time with Crucial or other third party RAM, exactly as chris v said.

Order a dual 2.5 (like I did) and that ought to last you well into the MacTel era.

They're still around and the are fast and work well.

I ended up getting mine for around the price of a dual 2.3.

Look around, it's a good deal.

I orginally wanted the 2.5 Ghz but decided on the 2.3 since it was the latest and not only did it ship with Tiger the Dual layer fast DVD Superdrive was the major selling point along with the option to BTO bluetooth 2.0 and wireless keyboard and mouse. If you want something to last you for a good while without the hassles of upgrading get the 2.3 Ghz.
