Well, I had my sights set on a 12 inch powerbook (80g, superdrive...) and decided to wait right before I go back to school to get it, but now I am split between the 17 inch iMac (2ghz) and the powerbook. Im trying to figure out which is better: a more powerful iMac for $100 cheaper but sacrifice portability or a less powerful, more expensive powerbook but have maximum portability? Can you guys help me out?

Also, since the the iMac G5's are newer, do they have more problems (dead pixels, etc...)?

I have my dell laptop which makes the iMac more reasonable, but then again, my laptop is ~10 pounds, which; last semester, I carried back and forth every week to broadcast my radio show from.

BTW, for those who have/used both, how much better is the iMac. Of course you can't directly compare the two, but what would you choose: power or portability.

Portability. You can hook a PB up to an external monitor but you can't take a desktop with you.
