You can put 128 + 256 for 384 Mb RAM. Virtually all RAM sold for the tray-load CD iMacs now are low profile, so there is no worry about it fitting. Some tray-load iMacs object to 256 + 256, there's no good way to tell in advance.
Choose your RAM from a reputable seller who tests and guarantees compatibility with your model Mac, offers a lifetime warranty and a no-cost return if it doesn't work, and you'll ge good.

You have 32 MB in the bottom slot, and 128 MB in the top. Not much point in hanging on to the 32 MB stick, so you have the choice between buying a 128 MB replacement, which will give you a total of 256 MB, or a 256 one, which'll give you 384 MB overall.
I've got the same machine as yours, subjectively happy with 256 total (lots of web browsing, newreading, light graphics and audio work, writing, p2p). YMMV.

Actually, I think they used to have 128+128 down as the maximum originally.
The limit of 256+256 is dictated by the fact that if you stick more than 256 MB in any one of the two available slots, the computer apparently won't recognise it.
I'd probably buy a 256 stick, see if I'm happy with 384 MB total. If not, you can always swap the 128 one out at a later date.
