hi!

I've seen people here recommend resetting NVRAM to fix problems. (like here for example http://forums.macnn.com/showthread.p...t=10.3+install ) Can someone tell me about it?

The NVRAM ("non-volatile RAM") is where the Mac stores things like the startup disk. It's analogous to the PRAM (Parameter RAM) in older Macs, and in fact can be reset the same way: hold down Command-Option-P-R during a reboot until you've heard the startup chime a total of 3 times.

This can fix many problems involving the startup process, and even a few others. It is also possible to do an even "deeper" cleaning of the NVRAM using the Open Firmware interface, but that is seldom needed.

is it possible to delete things of my hard drive in open firmware?

i really screwed things up. my panther install kept freezing so i copied the system folder on to my hard drive but it didnt work i was then trying to boot of the os 9 cd so i could delete it and make it run os 9 again and realised it was going really really slow and was making funny cd noises. so i got my cd cleaner out and tryed to fix it. this made it worse. it now doesnt recognize it as a disk and just goes to the os x cd thing that doesnt do anything and if i boot from the panther install cd and do the startup disk it just freezes.

what should i do?
