may have an opportunity to get a good closeout price on one of these. However, I'm concerned about many issues surrounding the rev a's, like battery pack overheating, capacitor bulgin/meltdown from the overheated motherboard, etc.

Were these rectified some months later after the iMac rev a's were released? That is, were later release shipments improved upon (not the rev. B's but other rev A's)?

Any experience with this model type?

I bought a 20" rev A because I found a GREAT deal on it. So far it's been amazing, and no issues for me whatsoever.
