New to the world of Mac's, bought a new CDRW which should arrive tomorrow, but was wondering how do you replace it on an Imac?

I'm an ex windows users, so trying to learn how to do all of this for a mac. I am sure its much easier than I am making it, just wondering if there are any sites or if anyone can show me any information that will help make this an easier job when I get the part.

Much thanks in advanced for any help given.

Hi there - welcome o the world of Macs (that sounds so cheesy....I'm so sorry)

What model iMac is it?
The original Bondi and Gumdrop models it is fairly easy to do - try xlr8yourmac.com for guides or Google comes up with OK results for 'iMac HD replacement' - you'll see the optical drive in the instructions for HD replacement.
Also, what OS are you running? and is the the replacement drive just 'any old drive' or a specific one which is known to fit and work in an iMac? The first iMacs used a laptop style tray loading drive, the seond ones usea slot loader, the Lamp-like ones used a more typical 'PC like' one and the current flat panel iMacs use slot loaders again. [Apologies if you know all this, it was not clear from your post.]

So according to lowendmac yours should be an Indigo G3 iMac with 500 Mhz processor and slot loading CD-RW drive as standard.

The page below has instructions on how to get to it. As long as the CD-RW drive is compatible you should be able to simply plug it in and reboot, but as I understand things, there are/were not that many slot loading drives anyway.
