ok, here is the setup.

G4 Digital Audio with 4 hard drives in it. All wiped with no OS on them. No raid either.
G5 Dual 2.0 with 2 drives connected to G4 with 6 pin to 6 pin.
Start G4 holding T and only 1 drive will show up on the G5 from the G4

I checked all permissions, all drives are set to CS (cable Select) on the G4

Why wont the other 3 drives show up? What am I doing wrong?

I am only using the G4 as an external Firewire enclosure. I want to get 2 new ribbon cables so I can have a total of 6 disc's in the G4 for storage.

Your answer is at the bottom of this article. The bottom line is that this is exactly normal operation.

BTW, the drives in the G4 should be set to master/slave rather than CS, but that's not going to address this issue.

FireWire Target Disk Mode works on internal ATA drives only. Target Disk Mode only connects to the master ATA drive on the Ultra ATA bus. It will not connect to Slave ATA, ATAPI or SCSI drives.

I found this out the hard way when my Sawtooth G4/400 copied over to the new G5 2.5 dual,
I had to do a lot of manual copying from other drives but am actually considering putting the
G4 up as a "server" machine in the basement that I can connect to remotely.

A G4 Digital Audio will indeed only mount the master ATA drive in FW Target Disk mode. ChrisF is also right, only the last few G4 models supported cable select.

The G5 is a bit different. If it is placed in FW Target Disk mode, it will mount all connected drives. You could put the G5 into target mode, and do the copying from the G4 side.
