Ok have a g5 tower dual 1.8 and had two hard drives. a was the stock 60g and b was the newer 200g that I switched to startup disk. I then took out both drives and put the drive b in the drive a slot and put a new 200 gig in slot b so I would have a total of 400g but it did not show up on the desktop or disk utility. I then put my old 60g back in and it did not show up too..what did I do wrong?? it is so simple to swap drives in this thing I can't see doing anything wrong I have searched the net with no luck to what I could have done wrong..any ideas? thanks

Cables. You have a SATA cable partially inserted. The new 200 GB has to be formatted, of course, before it mounts, but you should be able to see it in the Drive Utility. But since the 60 doesn't mount either, I bet it's the cable. THere are no Master/Slave or C:/E: drive issues on the Mac G5s

Serial ATA does not have master and slave drives as it connects only one drive per cable.

So I would also vote for the cable. Make sure to get one you know that works and then try again.

yes I switched all drives and they look ok on the first set of cables (all hd's are formatted)so I guess when I disconnected the bottom drive I damaged the cables as it was working before (have no idea how though) so how do I replace the cable and fix this? thanks much all

Go and purchase standard SATA cables in a local computer store?

Yeah I know what you mean, iceaxe. G5 drive installation is terrifically simple, but the tradeoff is that the cables are not readily replaceable. It certainly can be done, but it's thankfully not something I've had to do - you'll likely want a tech to do it if necessary.
