I am trying to find out the new part number for factory Apple Bluetooth 2.0+EDR board to install in my G5 tower. Does anyone have this part number? Does anyone know whether Apple is now shipping them in the newer towers, I know they are in the PowerBooks. Thanks.
I see D-Link is having rebates on their existing Bluetooth adapters, that to me is a clear sign that they too will be releasing the new standard here shortly.

Question: I know its a long-shot, but will this card install in the original G5's? Or is there any way to get Apple to add it? Thanks!

When you refer to the original G5, are you referring to the first model G5 towers? In the literature provided here is what is stated:
Power Mac G5 (Early 2005) Bluetooth Upgrade Kit for Apple Authorized Service Providers
This Bluetooth module in this kit is a service upgrade for Power Mac G5 computers introduced in early 2005 and can installed only in these computers. To identify this Power Mac G5 model, check the EMC number on the bottom of the computer. The EMC number for a Power Mac G5 (Early 2005) computer is 2061.
My model is the one before this series and it works perfectly, although the number on the bottom of my G5 is not the one required. In the Apple Show Info window all information shows up properly and the Apple Bluetooth preference panel works beautifully. Success!
Here is the box label:
Bluetooth Upgrade Kit for PMG5 M9984G/A
Contents are complete (you'll need no other parts) in a white box with the following:
Bluetooth External Antenna
Bluetooth Board
Screws (to affix board)
Literature about the warranty; Apple Service Provider statement; Customer information on how to plug in the external antenna (no brainer); Bluetooth Regulatory Certification
There is no installation instructions, but you can use these as I did:
http://tersus.no/bluetooth/
pbarton,
I walked into my Apple store and asked one of the salespeople about buying the kit outright, whereby I was handed the kit at $49, plus tax. They told me that they install them for free, but since I'm facile in getting around the inside of my G5 I had no desire to tote mine into the Apple store, but I can tell you that someone was doing just while I was there. Thanks for the lead!

Thanks. Yes I just bought one secondhand from a forum member and it is the original model dual 2.0. I'll be heading to the Apple store once I get it to purchase one of these.

The Apple Store will not sell it to me unless it is installed. This poses a problem because I have an origional 2.0. If someone that has been successful with this can get me the board and the antenna I would pay actual cost plus actual shipping and would bow to you as leader of the known world. PM if you would. Thank you.

RayK,
Will they install it in your unit if you take it in? Or are they adamant about only installing it in the latest G5's? I am sure there are some employees of Apple that read this board, and they probably my posts that it works on the older G5's (but Apple insiders know this). I guess I just got lucky in getting mine the way I did. I can tell you that mine zings and I love it.

Both. I ended up buying it from a guy on eBay. He was expensive but I'll at least have it done with now.

I was initially trying to purchase a kit from someone off eBay and I hope it is not the same person as they tried and tried to convince that their kit was version 2.0 when it wasn't. Did you get the 2.0 Bluetooth version?

Sorry to get back to you so late as I just now got back onto my computer. Yes, that's the person. Quite simply, the kit is the part number above: PMG5 M9984G/A. It is sold as a kit and not separate pieces like he is doing.
He sells just the board, then the antenna, and screws separate. And boy does he charge. The above is the complete kit with all the goodies. Besides, Apple charges only $49 and that includes the labor to put it in. He charges around $70 for just the board and it's not the latest version 2.0+EDR.
A sure clue that it is the latest board is to review the link with the instructions above. The latest version connects the antenna lead, inside the computer, on the opposite side of the board; reverse of this picture: http://tersus.no/bluetooth/images/cardinplace.jpg shows the lead on the backside of the board; version 2.0 is on the front side; the board can only go on one way as there is connector to the motherboard on the backside (which you cannot see in the picture).

I'll bet if you ask an Apple Service Center (a reseller) they'd probably order it for you. Otherwise you can google M9984G/A and there are a few places that will sell it (I think I saw $86 Canadian)

I tried again, and this time the person I tried would not do it. Maybe Apple has come down on them for doing what they did for me? It wasn't the same person I bought it from originally and if I see him again I will ask again.

Can anyone clarify whether M9984G/A is Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR? Is there a similar module that is Bluetooth 1.2, and does it have a different product code? I want to replace my DBT-120 to get Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR in my dual 2.3GHz G5 (April 2005 model).
