would an ati 9200 128mb be a good choice for a g4 800 that only gets used for internet and light gaming?
i picked up a g4 800 for $100 and all it needs is a new video card to make it work (i put my 9800 pro 128mb in as a test card). so, i plan to give it to my sister in law who cannot afford much else and gets my hand-me-down software.
any thoughts...? this card will run in a g4 as i understand it.

No.
It's a PCI card, so it wont support Quartz Extreme without a hack. And you've got the bandwidth advantage of AGP 4x at your disposal. So get an AGP card.

Best value for money is probably the cheapest Radeon 9600 you can find. There are also a lot of GeForce 5200 Ultras available used, that's a decent choice if the price is right (ie lower than the 9600). Older high-end models like Geforce4 Ti and Radeon 8500, can also be found used at decent prices.

Just keep in mind that the 9600 needs to be hardware modified to work in a 4x AGP slot and the ADC wont work.

gangster,
I have a two month old Radeon 9800 Mac Edition that will work in your G4. I bought it thinking I would keep my dual 1GHz QuickSilver until the Macintels but soon changed my mind and got a G5.
As I really don't need the Radeon now, I'm looking to sell it. PM me if you're interested.

To dislike Sinatra is a sign of highly questionable taste. To dislike the Beatles is a serious character flaw.

A Radeon 8500 or 9000 would be fine. The G4 800 is your biggest bottleneck for heavy gaming (you said light), so you don't need much more of a video card.

I have a Radeon 8500 Mac Edtion that I would be willing to sell if your interested.
Before anyone says anything, its a true Mac Editon not a PC with MAC BIOS, extended desktop works perfectly.
