Nice.

What's the difference between a drive that's listed as "Yes (Apple Shipped/Supported)" as opposed to "Yes (Unsupported)"?

As it implies, it recognizes that it's not a drive that Apple shipped in the machine, and that it is not supported in some or all Apple burning apps. (Typically, as in this case, iDVD is the pickiest and won't burn to it.)

So does this mean that the MCE guys are installing patchburn or something to get this thing to work right?

Possibly. Or it could just be that they're relying on iDVD 5's being much less picky with drives.
