Machine is a G4 733 running 10.3.3.

I installed a pioneer dvd drive (dvr-110) that I purchased from macsales.com and told the slaeguy i was inexperienced with macs. He told me to install the drive like you would on a pc then run this patchburn software.

Ran patchburn about 10 times. Insert a music cd, mac cd or dvd and the system just spins and spits it out. Alos, no disc shows up in iTunes either

Under system prefs I can see the drive showing up.

Please tell me this is an easy fix. Does a mac have any 'search for new h/w' like a PC? I am very lost.

Try zapping PRAM by rebooting and holding down the Command-Option-P-R keys UNTIL you near a second chime. Then let go and allow for the boot process to finish. If the drive is still not seen by iApps then make sure you’ve installed the correct version of Patchburn. One is for Panther and one for Tiger. This is crucial.

Thanks for the reply. Did that and still a no go. Very odd as the drive shows up in the 'about this mac' area. I have the jumper on 'cable select'. Maybe if I try it in a different spot.

Thanks and any help appreciated.

Silly though maybe… once you have installed Patchburn, have the app (Patchburn) installed the needed driver for the Pioneer?, I mean, Patchburn does not install the driver "automatically", you must select the Pioneer in the Patchburn window and then do a clic on 'Install' to let Patchburn install the appropriate driver, after that Patchburn must show you a message where you can read the driver was succesfully installed.

Jumper the drive as Master. Only the last few PowerMac G4 towers supported Cable Select.
