Well now the keynote has been officially cancelled, I dont know what to do about buying my mini. I was originally wating until Sept 20 to see if any mini updates were in store, but now no keynote = no announcement. When is it likely for apple to introduce new updates now (not specific to the mini, just in general). Anyone got an idea?

Is it a foregone conclusion that Apple ONLY announces products and updates at special events? I have read that there ARE new Mini part numbers in the pipe, and when they updated the Mini offerings earlier this summer, they just did it without a lot of fanfare. I'm still going to wait.

True. Its just I dont want to have to wait for months for a possible new one to come out, because its a vicious circle, because as soon as the new one comes out, i'll be thinking 'wait for intel', and that just sucks

You simply CAN'T buy computers and let yourself worry about waiting for the next item. As soon as a Mac is delivered it's obsolescent, and if it's a PC, it's OBSOLETE. It's just a matter of time before your brand new screaming machine is old news, so try not to obsess about it.
I'm waiting for a number of reasons, including not having funds at this particular moment. But I'm hoping some rumors are true and they are about to release a G5 Mini. If I wait until the end of the month, I'll be closer to having the cash, and I'll know better what Apple is planing.

Ye I suppose you are right, I think, like you I will wait until the end of the month, and if there is no new mini buy then, i'll just go for it and buy it. No doubt my luck a G5 mini will be out the day after i buy mine, but as you said, thats life. Like the comment on PC's being obsolete, period. Very true

Keep in mind that apple usually releases stuff on a tuesday so if you plan to get it on a monday, wait until the next day.

I just bought the 1.42 combo model to use as an FTP server, and it totally rocks. Why wait? Do it now.
Even if Apple updates them tomorrow, you may be hit by a bus right after.

You can always sell your Mac at some future date, to help pay for an upgrade to a new one.

If you desire it, crave it, lust for it, or just need it and have the money; DON'T WAIT! I am new to Macs having bought my Mini on 8/4/05 without even trying one. I based the decision on a lot of research and a basic gut feeling. It was tough to do.
I have owned and used PC's since the mid 80's, using the long forgotten "C" prompt on a $2500 Hyundai 286. My Mini is by far the best computer I have ever owned. It does everything I need it to do better than a PC with Windoze.
I still have five other Windoze machines in the house (Thinkpad 233 mhz laptop, HP Athlon XP 2000 laptop, Dell P4 2ghz desktop, Dell P4 2.8 ghz desktop and a brand new Emachine Athlon 64 3400 Media Center desktop). My wife (the new Emachine is hers) and my five kids at home use these. My daughter at collage also has a new Compaq Athlon 64 3400 desktop. I have worked on, upgraded and been frustrated with all of these machines. I now regret not buying my daughter a Mac since she was the only one in the house comfortable using both platforms. I was just too afraid to make the transition with her going to college and me not being able to assist with any problems she might have. It was a mistake
I love my Mac Mini and am a loyal convert. Nothing is perfect as I already had it in for a minor repair. Regardless, I am still satisfied.
If you want it, get it. Don't dwell on what "may" come along as you have no control over it.

I just recently got a mini--it's great.
A G5 Mini? Doubt it! The G5's are so f--ing hot, they would torch the mini. It is SMALL.
