I have a 9 month old G5, 2 Gig, 20". Occassionally when I turn it on, I can hear the drive spin up but the computer will not boot up, so I just hold in the power button to shut it off, then try again, and it usually boots right up. I would take it in to be looked at, but it happens so sporadically, I think they'd just tell me that there was nothing wrong. I am not adding or removing peripherals between boots, so I don't think it's a hardware conflict. Anyone with a similar problem and/or solutions?

Does the display come on when it tries to boot? If not, you may have a logic board issue. I think I had similar issues with my ibook. It usually worked fine but once or twice it would start with the display black. Then one day the display froze and I had to get a new board.

If you don't yet have AppleCare, call now to log this issue. It sounds like the problem covered under the iMac G5 repair extension program, but if not you want to have your issue logged before your 1 year warranty is up.

Also, use the hardware diagnostic program that came on the iMac DVD and see if that reports any hardware problems. If so, that's all the evidence you should require to get your iMac repaired.
