Our Mac has been running very slow when using Appleworks applications. Also it locked up when on the internet, using Internet Explorer, and some type of message came up covering the screen, something to the effect of crashing and at the end it said hang in there. Have not seen it in a couple of months. We bought the Norton System Works and when I tried loading it on System OSX it stalled on the "Running Installer Scripts" step and I let it go for about 4 hours and finally had to force quit the installation. I ran the Apple Hardware Test disc and after everything came back OK I chose to restart the computer and I right upon it starting up I got that same message covering the screen, something to the effect of system crash and at the end it said hang in there and all of these letters and numbers and key-stroke shapes covered the screen. It took me 9 tries and I had to keep the power secured from the computer for 30 minutes before I could start it without that message coming up and locking it up. Does anyone have any thoughts, suggestions as to what we can do. The only program it seems to effect it Appleworks and we have Norton Antivirus already on there and when I did a virus scan everything came back OK. I even scanned the whole hard drive. We are currently running Mac OS-X. Anything we can try or do would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
dandksplace

Popular talk on discussion forums seems to be - Do not use Norton on Mac OS X. Sorry to say that, but Norton seems to cause more trouble than it fixes or prevents on systems later than OS 8, some OS9 stuff was OK.

My recommendation would be to un-install all Norton stuff, but wait for some other posts from experience before you do anything.
