Hello friends,

I'm using a Quicksilver dual 1ghz G4 running 10.3.3 with two apple studio displays.

Recently the fan in my video card seized up, and the card fried out. I was told by the repair tech the video card needed to be replaced and everything would run fine. I decided to wait for this new great card to come out, named the Radeon 9600 Pro PC & Mac Edition, by ATI.

To make a long story short, I installed the card in every way possible. Testing with different displays and even taping a few connections as was suggested in the Aplle Forums. The computer starts up, but nothing at all happens on any display I try. The card says it is compatible with 4X AGP, which is what I should have in the Quicksilver.

The card does say 10.3.6 or later, and my CPU has 10.3.3. Of course I can't update before I see anything on the screen. But I don't think it wouldn't work at all due to an OS issue. It should at least light up.

Has anyone used one of these cards and encountered a similar issue?

Thank you,

MSM

I just installed one of these in a Dual 1.0 Quicksilver yesterday, and it's working fine with two VGA displays. Mine had dual DVI outputs, but no ADC. I had to install drivers for it, but other than that, it's humming along-- OS 10.4.2.

Sounds like you need to find a way to update your OS-- perhaps take out the hard drive, stick it in a friend's Mac, and update it there, then return it to your machine?

I wonder if the "repair tech" tested the machine with a working video card?? Do you have a spare card? It COULD be the new 9600 or the OS but then again you haven't ruled out a fried AGP slot. Also, if the card is works with 10.3.6+, you should at least be able to boot to the CD. It wouldn't surprize me that it doesn't work with your current unsupported OS.
