I just got a Seagate 300GB drive and while it seems pretty quiet, it does vibrate more than my Western Digital. When it's powered on and I touch it, i can feel it vibrating whereas the Western Digital I can't feel anything (both drives are spinning). Is this normal?

Anyone have a Seagate drive? Does yours vibrate?

I first noticed this because it vibrated my G5 case a bit to the point that I could hear it.

This doesn't sound kosher to me at all. Backup whatever data you need from this drive and return it for a new one. Stick with Seagate, though. Stinks if you got a defective unit, but most folks will agree that Seagates are still the best drives out there (and boast the best warranty, too!).

To dislike Sinatra is a sign of highly questionable taste. To dislike the Beatles is a serious character flaw.

I have the exact same drive (Seagate 300Gb). It does not vibrate. You did use the mounting screws that came with your G5?....
If so,there is something wrong, so ditto the last post.

thanks, it turns out it was indeed defective. i exchanged it for another one and the new one has no vibration and is totally quiet, etc. interestingly, the good one was made in Singapore and the bad one in Thailand. i bet Singapore has better quality control.
