Has anyone added a 1 gig ram stick to their G4 iMac 1.25. Seems most places say that the max ram is 1 gig but I wonder if I were to add a 1 gig module, would it work ok and will it actually allow me to use 1.25 gigs?
Thanks

The G4 iMacs that take DDR memory (1 GHz and up) can take a maximum of 2 Gb RAM -- 1 Gb per module. The user accessible socket is a DDR PC2700 200 pin SODIMM socket
The internal socket is a 184-pin DIMM PC2700 socket, and if a recommended technician-only install, as the machine has to be comprehensively disassembled and the cooling will mess up if it is not put back together correctly.
(The 700 and 800 MHz iMac G4s use PC1233 RAM and are NOT capable of going beyond 512 Mb per socket)
(yes, I know the 1st 17" iMac G4 took DDR PC2100 but PC2700 works)
Thanks
Trevor

Thanks Trevor... I think I"ll add a 1 gig module... confusing to me why crucial doesn't offer it on the ram options for the G4 1.25?

Crucial is sticking to the official (and outdated) Apple spec for the machine. Go with a reputable vendor that tests and guarantees compatibility with your model iMac, offers a lifetime warranty and a no-cost return if it does not work.

Thanks again for your comments CR.. I have installed the 1 gig module and can attest that the Mac does recognize it and use the full 1.25 GB.. Seems a lot "snappier" now! LOL
Actually I was getting quite a number of pageouts and frequent beachballs with 768 megs and apparently that extra 512 module was going bad or something.. The new ram seems to have cured this problem..

Couple of questions for you 1.25 GHz 17" G4 iMac users & friends:
Is there any issue with having the built-in (184 pin non-accessible) memory just being 256 MB and the user accessible (200 pin module) memory being 1 GB?
I have 768 MB (256 + 512) total RAM today... will replacing the 512 MB module with 1 GB (for a total of 1.25 GB) be enough for a noticable difference, or is it not worth doing unless I replace both?
Thanks! I've been pretty happy with the G4, but Safari definitely seems slow, and I'm thinking a memory boost would be the quickest and easiest way to address that.

It will be a noticeable difference with apps like Final Cut and other CPU intensive things. But I don't think it would make Safari any faster though, it might though if you have a lot of other apps running while using Safari.
