I received my Giga Designs Dual 1.8 GHz tonight, and was so excited, but now at 1 a.m. I am at a loss...here's my problem.
To begin the upgrade process, I updated the firmware with the "Install 7447 Firmware update" from GigaDesigns.
After it finished and the computer powered down, I was instructed to startup the computer with the programmers button depressed.
I then held down the reset button on the front of the Quicksilver and restarted. In the instructions it states to hold down the programmer's button, which I mistook to be the reset button above the (very small) programmers button. I feel pretty stupid.
So the mac restarted with me holding the reset button instead of the programmer's button, and I was greeted with a purple screen that said Giga Designs 7447 Firmware update and I thought that all was well, since the machine booted up fine after this purple screen. Then I shut down, and uninstalled the original 800 MHz processor and installed the Dual 1.8 GigaDesigns.
When I tried to boot up I was greeted with the familiar Apple and grey screen but nothing more happened. I then realized my mistake with the programmers button so I shut down, and reinstalled the original 800 MHz CPU aiming to re-run the firmware update, this time holding down the programmer's button on re-boot.
Now the Quicksilver does not startup on it's original CPU. It powers up with no chime, and doesn't display anything to the screen (it's just black). I hear something start to spin up and then spins down.
I have reset the PMU with no change in behavior. I cannot reset the PRAM because it will not do it (it doesn't seem to "startup that far". I am so dissapointed and hope I didn't do anything bad to my Quicksilver. I'll call Giga tomorrow for help but thought I might sleep easier if I posted here before bed. What a &%$# night for me. Any ideas?

OK here's my theory. Somebody with an actual clue please tell me if this is possible:
When I reinstalled the original 800 MHz CPU one of the heat sink clamps was not down all the way, which made some 'play' in the heatsink. Does this mean I burned out the original CPU? That would explain a lot. If the CPU is damaged, would that be consistent with the no chime on startup? Or would the mac chime anyways? Thanks!

Confirmed: The original processor was fried. I put in a Sawtooth G4 450 processor, re-did the firmware update holding down the programmers button, installed the Dual 1.8 no problem.
Moral of the story: never turn on a computer unless the heat sink is fully secured to CPU.
Thanks for your input

The speed is excellent, it's a big change from the single 800 G4 processor. Multitasking is amazing and the processing power is on par with a dual 1.8 G5. Check out barefeats.com for speed tests that compare these 7447 upgrades to G5's.
