new eMac & jumpy mouse

I just got my wife's new eMac set up and all is well EXCEPT for the mouse. I am using Apple's standard USB mouse, plugged in to the keyboard's USB port. It jumps around as if it has a mind of its own. I tried using the bluetooth mouse I use with my iMac G5, but it also jumps around. I have tried to change the mouse settings, but no matter what they are set at, it still jumps. Any ideas? Thanks!

I got a reply on another site...after I out a piece of paper down for the mouse to move on, everything was fine. Apparently, the surface of my computer table doesn't like optical mice!
