Hi ,
Today i bought "Tiger" having resisted new software since 10.1.5(well i was happy with it ok) however i have found my dvd \cd superdrive has packed up. Im not brave enough to take the machine apart although it might work with a clean and i don't want to send it away for big bucks so i believe my other option is to attach an external dvd/cd drive.
Unfortunately there are a bewildering amount of products out there and i just don't know what to get can someone advise please....and will i then be able to load "Tiger from it?

Ihave an imac Power PC G4 512mb if that helps anyone..thanks.

definately try cleaning it. I did and it bought me several more months with my DVD burner. Now it's starting to act up in bizarre ways, but only when burning DVD's.

As to the other question...I'll be waiting for others' answers as I'm considering the same. (Actually, I'm considering ways of talking my wife into letting me get the new iMac--that this is positively bad-ass!)

Thanks for your reply I tried blowing air in with a bike pump but thats no good, i can't consider taking the machine apart as i need to buy a back up hard drive just in case it goes bang ... i've never taken a computer apart before. I can't risk for it to break as ive got things on ebay...!I'm actually quite happy with this machine, i hope i'll get another 3/4 years out of it!

Yeah, I love my soccer-ball Mac, but the bike pump thing won't help. Get a $20 DVD lens cleaner from radio shack. Like I said, it saved me once.

Hi , i hear you but... in order to clean the lens i have to open up the back and not knowing what i am doing i will probably break the machine.
